Green Living

DSC06650 Both D and I have been nature advocates on our own, even before we met. So living “green” was not new to both of us.

We live by the mantra: REDUCE, REUSE and RECYCLE… Although, we could’ve gone to using cloth diapers to live totally GREEN… But, it was too much hard work for me – so we opted to using cotton diapers instead – more biodegradable than diapers with plastic.

Here are just some of the ways of how we HELP out the environment…

  • When getting gas, we opt to load our tank with E10 Unleaded, this gasoline contains ethanol, which enables cleaner burning and has renewable component that helps to reduce global greenhouse gas emissions. It’s also cheap too! For only 32.07 pesos per liter.
  • We plan our trips. It saves time and gas energy at the same time. And we take it easy on the accelerator when driving.
  • We flatten all our tetra packs and carton boxes. It gives a lot more space for other garbage, if we compact them.
  • Avoiding buying take-outs from restaurant. Less styrofoam packaging , plastic bags and plastic cups, the better. And if we do get take-outs, we always refuse a plastic bag or two.
  • Always have a reusable bag with you. I have 5. I always have one stashed in my bag, one in the car, and the others we bring for major grocery shopping. When I do forget to bring a reusable bag, I ask the bagger to place our merchandise in a carton box instead. We also use reusable bags even for department store trips.
  • When we do fly. We pack only the necessities. Less weight on a plane ride means lesser fuel used.
  • Bring a sports bottle for water, instead of buying mineral water in bottles whenever we go out.
  • Always plug-off any electrical appliance when not in use.
  • When we do take out the trash, we segregate our garbage from wet and dry. And for garbage bags, we use EDISON biodegradable trash bags. The texture is grainier than regular plastic bags and it’s available at most major supermarket’s in the metro from 70 to 90 pesos, depending in the size.
